If that wasn’t enough, La Ventana is a water sports paradise. Lets start with fishing. It’s incredible here April to November. There’s Dorado, Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin, Amberjack, Pargo, Roosterfish, and Cabrilla. The same waters provide world-class spear fishing opportunities and are home to no less than six world records. Scuba diving and snorkeling are also fantastic around Cerralvo Island with sea lion colonies, shipwrecks, underwater cliffs and pinnacles. The best visibility is April – November. Kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) are also incredibly popular here in the summer months and mornings during the winter season. Groups of friends can be seen paddling along the coast stopping afterwards at favorite spots for coffee or breakfast. SUP boards are readily available for rent and lessons for those new to the sport easily arranged.

As fun as summer is, the winter winds bring the most fame to La Ventana. From November to April, northwest winds funnel through the window between Punta Gorda and Cerralvo Island. They are incredibly consistent and provide the perfect conditions for kiteboarding and windsurfing. The skies of La Ventana Bay are filled with colorful kites and sails as visitors ride the wind and waves every afternoon. For those who want to learn, professional instructors and schools offer lessons for all skill levels. Gear is available at many shops and hotels. The shape of La Ventana Bay provides a safe beach for beginners to ride downwind then get a ride back upwind to start again.
Every January, for the past six years, La Ventana has hosted the La Ventana Classic – a charity event that raises money for local schools and the community. This popular event includes all the favorite winter sports.
