Jesuitas, Baja California Sur

La orden de la Sociedad de Jesús fue fundada por el religioso español Ignacio de Loyola militar castellano y poeta, se convirtió en el primer general de la orden. El propósito inicial de los Jesuitas fue evangelizar a los turcos de Palestina, al ser aprobada por el Papa en 1540 esta orden llegó a ser un instrumento importante en la lucha de la Iglesia Católica Romana contra el Protestantismo y comienzo de lo que hoy conocemos como la Contrarreforma.

To talk about the order of the Society of Jesus, We need to trace back to the past and to transcend

barriers, bringing to the memory that was founded by the Spaniard religious Ignacio de Loyola, a

military and poet Castilian; he became the first

General of the order. The Jesuits had as their initial purpose to evangelize the Turks in Palestine, a commission approved by the Pope in 1540. This order became an important instrument in the fight of the Roman Catholic Church against the Protestantism and was the beginning of what we now know as the

Counter-Reformation.

 Los Jesuitas tenían dentro de la orden, hombres valientes y osados para quienes lo más importante era trabajar en las misiones, al llegar a San Bruno, Baja California Sur, en 1683 dirigidos por el Padre Misionero Eusebio Francisco Kino; fundaron una pequeña misión construida con carpas y materiales frágiles que no prospero dado el clima del lugar. Las historias de este lugar fueron escuchadas por el Padre Juan María de Salvatierra para quien significó un reto empezar la obra en California e inició la lucha recabando los recursos económicos para llevar a cabo la evangelización de esas tierras que llamaban su atención, pues si querían llegar a California los religiosos tendrían que soportar los gastos de la expedición y la manutención. Al llegar a Loreto y familiarizarse con la gente native fundaron la primera Misión que ahora se conoce como “Cabeza y Madre de todas las Misiones de la Alta y Baja California”.

The Jesuits as a congregation had in their order courageous and brave men for whom the priority was to work in the missions with the objective to form, at its core, an ideological culture with affinity on what they professed. So they were defining their path and in 1683 when arrived at San Bruno, South Baja California led by the missionary Father Eusebio Francisco Kino, they founded a small mission built with tents and fragile materials which did not flourish due to the inclemency of the weather but somehow it was a new missionary destiny for them.
