To talk about the order of the
Society of Jesus, We need to trace back to the past and to transcend
barriers, bringing to the memory
that was founded by the Spaniard religious Ignacio de Loyola, a
military and poet Castilian; he
became the first
General of the order. The Jesuits
had as their initial purpose to evangelize the Turks in Palestine, a commission
approved by the Pope in 1540. This order became an important instrument in the
fight of the Roman Catholic Church against the Protestantism and was the
beginning of what we now know as the
Counter-Reformation.
The Jesuits as a congregation had
in their order courageous and brave men for whom the priority was to work in
the missions with the objective to form, at its core, an ideological culture with
affinity on what they professed. So they were defining their path and in 1683
when arrived at San Bruno, South Baja California led by the missionary Father
Eusebio Francisco Kino, they founded a small mission built with tents and
fragile materials which did not flourish due to the inclemency of the weather
but somehow it was a new missionary destiny for them.
