WOMEN OF LOS CABOS
Los Cabos nuevamente será puesto ante
los ojos del mundo, y es que el próximo 30 de marzo será sede por segunda ocasión
de la competencia IRONMAN LOS CABOS 2014,
triatlón de alto rendimiento que reúne a los más fuertes del mundo.
The eyes of the
world will be on Los Cabos again. The IRONMAN LOS CABOS 2014 competition will
take place here this march 30. Only the strongest athletes compete in this high
performance triathlon.
Esta prueba deportiva es
considerada una de las más antiguas y prestigiosas del mundo, pero también una
de las más exigentes, quienes se atreven a ser parte de ella, deben entrenar
duramente para poder cumplir con este gran reto, y de ser posible imponer una
nueva marca.
The Ironman competition is considered one of the oldest and most
prestigious in the world. It is also one of the most demanding. Those who dare
to be part of it must train incredibly hard just to compete let alone set a new
record.
Su origen data del año 1978
cuando el infante de marina de nombre John Collins propuso combinar estas tres
disciplinas (natación, ciclismo y maratón) para de ahí determinar cuáles
atletas eran los mejores y al ganador se le consideraba un ironman.
The origin dates back
to 1978 when the US Marine, John Collins, proposed combining three disciplines (swimming,
cycling and a marathon) in an effort to determine which athletes were the best.
The winner was considered an Ironman.
Si bien desde aquel entonces, el
campeonato del mundo se realiza todos los años en Kona, Hawaii, se llevan a cabo
otros Ironman´s clasificatorios; en el caso de México sólo se había realizado
en la Isla de Cozumel, y ahora también Los Cabos por su
ubicación, infraestructura y bellezas naturales.
Since that time,
the world championship is held every year in Kona, Hawaii. Other Ironman
competitions are held as qualifiers. In Mexico, the only previous qualifying
event was held on the island of Cozumel. This time around, Los Cabos was chosen
for its convenient location, infrastructure and natural beauty.
El año pasado participaron 1,470 atletas
provenientes de 47 países. Este año 2014 se espera la participación de más de 1500 participantes, con 200 mexicanos inscritos.

expected the participation of more than 1500 participants, with 200 Mexican
register.
La competencia arrancará el domingo 30 de marzo a las 6:45 am para nadar 3.8 km en la emblemática playa Palmilla. Luego
de casi dos horas de nado a mar abierto, el siguiente reto será el ciclismo, donde los competidores tendrán que recorrer 180 km a lo largo de la carretera transpeninsular, donde los espectadores podrán animar a los deportistas. Y Finalmente
los sobrevivientes a este gran reto deportivo deberán cumplir con la tercera y
última fase: el maratón, una carrera de 42.2 km como lo hacen los
grandes atleta de los mundiales o juegos
olímpicos. Con esto nos podemos dar una idea del esfuerzo sobrehumano que estos hombres y mujeres
realizan en los Ironmans.
The competition will start on Sunday, March 30th at 6:45 am
to swim 3.8 km in the iconic Palmilla beach. After nearly two hours of open
water swimming, the next challenge will be cycling, where competitors will do
180 km along the transpeninsular road where spectators can encourage athletes. And
finally the survivors of this great sporting challenge must comply with the
third and final phase: the marathon, a race of 42.2 km as make great athlete in
world or Olympic Games. With this we can give us an idea of the superhuman effort
that these men and women perform in Ironmans.
Días previos a este gran evento, se podrá ver a muchos de los
deportistas entrenando sobre la carretera transpeninsular, tratando no sólo de
estar en la mejor condición física para hacer frente a este desafío deportivo,
sino también para acostumbrarse al terreno y a las condiciones climatológicas.
Many of the athletes
will train on the highway during the days leading up to the event. They will
not only be working to stay in the best physical condition possible for this
challenging sport, but also to get accustomed to the local terrain and weather
conditions.
Además de la categoría de Elite, Ironman Los Cabos se divide en 13 categorías por edad, desde los 18 hasta los 80 o más
años de edad, en las ramas varonil y femenil. Con una bolsa de premios de 75 mil dólares en
efectivo.
In addition to the
Elite category, Ironman Los Cabos will be divided into 13 age categories
ranging from 18 to 80 and up. Men and women competed separately. And with a
prize pool of $75,000 in cash was available for this great sporting event.
Sin duda un gran evento que
coloca a Los cabos como uno de los escenarios ideales para competencias
deportivas internacionales de alto nivel.
The Ironman was definitely
a successful event that established Los Cabos as one of the ideal locations for
the highest level of international sporting competitions.
