Baja California Sur is a territory
full of beauty. The sea has different shades of blue with clear waters that invites you to witness the greatness of a place that has a lot to offer.
The beaches are
one of the main attractions of Baja California Sur. Visitors on vacation
enjoy the pureness of each and every one of the beaches.
Since 2015 three beaches in the sudcalifornia territory caught the attention of the international committee that awards the distinctive Blue Flag. For the season of 2016-2017 three beaches are once again in the distinctive Blue Flag recognition and one beach at La Paz is being included as well.
Blue Flag is an international insignia that was developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an organization that grew over the years thanks to the international interest it has raised. In 2000 the organization became a global foundation and currently has 77 member organizations in 65 different countries.
Chileno Beach
In Mexico, the
organization Pronatura Mexico A.C. is responsible for operating for the FEE.
Pronatura is dedicated to preserving the flora and fauna as well as to
prioritize ecosystems, promoting society to coexist with nature.
For the
2016-2017 season the beaches Palmilla, El Chileno and Santa María in Los Cabos
maintain the Blue Flag insignia and beach Corumuel in La Paz was proudly added
to the list.
To be a part of
Blue Flag, the beaches met 33 criteria in four categories:
- Information and
Environmental Education
- Water Quality
- Environmental Management
- Security and Services
The Blue Flag jury evaluates the candidates and makes the final decision at national and international level. The destinations that were approved by the jury will be able to exhibit the Blue Flag starting on July 1st.
